Pre & Aftercare
Pre & aftercare for clients
Following pre- and aftercare advice is essential to getting the best possible results from your beauty treatments. Pre-treatment guidance helps prepare your skin, reduce sensitivity, and ensure you’re ready for your appointment. Aftercare supports healing, minimises side effects, and helps maintain the results for longer. These steps are designed to protect the health and integrity of the treated area – and skipping them can lead to irritation, infection, or less effective results. A little care before and after your treatment really does make all the difference.
Before your first appointment, you’ll be asked to complete a health questionnaire so I can tailor your treatment safely and appropriately. If you have any allergies or sensitivities, it's important to disclose them – I cannot take responsibility for any reactions if this information hasn’t been provided. Where required, patch tests must be carried out at least 48 hours before treatment to ensure your safety.
If you're unable to attend your appointment, please give at least 48 hours' notice to avoid being charged. Cancellations made within 24 hours may still incur a charge at my discretion. For your initial appointment, a deposit may be required at the time of booking.
Thank you for your understanding and for helping me to provide the best possible service.
Gel Nails
To keep your gel nails looking their best and lasting as long as possible, please follow these simple aftercare steps:
In the first 24 hours after application:
-
Wear gloves when washing up to protect your nails from water and harsh products.
-
Avoid excessive heat – steer clear of saunas, sunbeds, or hot baths.
-
Don’t soak your hands for long periods, such as in the bath or swimming pool.
-
Avoid using your nails as tools to prevent lifting or breakage.
Between Appointments:
-
Apply hand cream and cuticle oil regularly to keep your nails hydrated and healthy.
-
Treat your nails gently to extend the life of your gel polish and keep them looking fresh.

Waxing
To ensure your waxing treatment is as comfortable and effective as possible, please follow the guidelines below before and after your appointment.
Before Your Appointment:
-
Hair should be at least 1/4 inch long (around 6mm) – avoid shaving for 2–3 weeks before your wax.
-
Gently exfoliate the day before to remove dead skin cells and help prevent ingrown hairs.
-
Do not apply moisturiser, oil, or lotion on the day of your treatment, as it can interfere with the wax.
-
Avoid sunbathing or tanning beds 24–48 hours before, as this can make your skin more sensitive.
-
Wear loose, comfortable clothing to avoid post-wax irritation.
-
Let me know about any medications or skin sensitivities during your consultation.
After Your Appointment:
-
Avoid heat exposure for 24 hours – no hot baths, saunas, sunbeds, or steam rooms.
-
Skip deodorant and tight clothing on waxed areas to prevent friction and irritation.
-
Keep the area clean and apply a gentle antiseptic like Savlon to support healing.
-
Avoid vigorous exercise for the first 24 hours to allow the skin to settle.

Facials
To help you get the most from your Matis facial, please follow these simple steps before and after your treatment. Whether you’re enjoying a quick boost or a more advanced skin solution, a little extra care makes all the difference.
Before Your Appointment:
-
Arrive with clean skin – avoid wearing makeup if possible, especially heavy foundation.
-
Avoid exfoliating or using active skincare products (like retinol, glycolic acid, or AHAs) for 48 hours prior to your treatment.
-
Let me know if you're using any prescription skincare or experiencing breakouts, sensitivity, or changes to your routine.
-
Stay hydrated in the days leading up to your appointment – well-hydrated skin responds best to treatment.
-
Avoid tanning or sun exposure before your facial, especially if you’re booked for a peel-based or brightening treatment.
After Your Facial:
-
Avoid wearing makeup for at least 6–12 hours, especially after treatments that include extractions or active ingredients.
-
Don’t exfoliate for at least 3 days following your facial to allow your skin to recover and absorb the benefits.
-
Avoid direct sun exposure, steam rooms, and heat treatments (like saunas or hot baths) for 24–48 hours.
-
Use gentle, hydrating skincare at home – I’ll recommend suitable Matis products to prolong your results.
-
Apply SPF daily, even on cloudy days – this protects your skin and maintains your glow.
-
Drink plenty of water and aim for a good night’s sleep to support the skin’s natural regeneration process.
Looking after your skin between appointments is just as important as the treatment itself – I’m always happy to advise on the best home care to suit your skin.
